Hello. It was very nice to know your activities and various messages on your website.
I have sent a small donation for you by funds transfer from post office of Japan today.

I would love to join you in order to stop the overdrive by people's anger and hate against terrorists.
Now, I will try to spread this activities toward people such as women who are closer to me.

0202 _______________________________________
Starting Tomorrow, I would like to have a meeting with volunteers of our office regarding your activities.

Its concept was "Communication with environment-conscious."
My question is what can we do now to stop the war.

I begged the president of my parent company to change my position as soon as possible because I want to think more about what I should do now.

However, even though the letter of Mr. Gred Needs was great, I feel strange as the content of the advertisement placing people's hope toward peace.
I will seek ways to make more positive suggestion soon.

I am impressed with "Thought" by Mr. Kazunao Yamada more than anything.
Again, I will think, what I can do.

Thank you for everything you are doing for me.
America is facing terrorism on a number fronts, and is getting ready for military retaliation.
The indignation and sorrow caused from your loved ones' deaths by terrorism can never be healed even by killing people you have never met in the same way.
If a war breaks out, it is plain to see that people will experience much more sorrow, anger and agony. And that will last for a long time even after the war ends.
Furthermore, the war will result in environmental disruption and contamination in many ways. We must remember Viet and Duc who were born with extreme physical defects in Vietnam caused by extensive use of chemical defoliants. I believe they cry out the misery of war.
Japan is about to organize to support America's military retaliation, particularly in terms of expenditure and manpower. Would you agree with such a policy?
It is beyond my comprehension and I feel I want to bite my lip in frustration. Whenever I watch the news, either on TV or in newspapers, the only scenes that are presented are those that agitate people to go to the war in the USA or Japan. I have noticed that the newspaper articles are controlled, suggesting that "beating the enemy" is the only way to overcome the tragedy.
The result of a public opinion poll in the USA showed that the percentage that supports military retaliation was 85% and within that 60% expressed that even if several thousand innocent civilians are killed the USA should go into action with the enemy. (Sanyo Newspaper 17th September 2001) I cannot believe those numbers.
What do you think?
Miyuki Kikuchi, a friend of mine who lives in Chiba says that the voices seeking peace are not heard well in the public because the media seems to be biased in its reporting on the incident. Also there are families of victims who think that retaliation is not the appropriate response. Therefore, we are now in the middle of collecting messages and preparing to take out a newspaper advertisement setting out our opinions.
(Enquiry OPEN JAPAN Telephone 078-842-2070 www.peace2001.jp.org/)
Starting such action in the USA could be considered supporting terrorists. Anyone taking such actions must be prepared for danger, but I do admire their courage.
We are to have a big gathering in Kyoto called "Wish for One World" on the 24th of September 2001, which is a national holiday. Under such circumstances we are going to change some part of the program and have a sharing time. There we will collect some messages from the people who would like to express their thoughts on the tragedy.
I am hoping to make a small booklet of the messages.
Anyone who receives the fax message please send me a message by fax. The dead line is Saturday, 22nd September 2001. That would help me to organize the small booklet beforehand. This time I really regret that I do not have Email. I feel very irritated for the first time. If you have access to Email please convey the idea to anybody you know. Then send them to me by fax.

The Contents of fax message
1, within 33 words
2, Your name
3, Your address (It could be only prefecture)
4, Your job or something about yourself
Please send your fax to +81 866-48-3248

I must notify you that the booklet will be send to U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee who stood in lone dissent against the resolution of the House of Representatives as well as President Bush, Prime Minister Koizumi. It will also be used in the mail magazines, too.
If you can think any other effective method to convey the messages I hope you will take some kind of action. Let us make a choice and act accordingly. This is a time that we are being tested.
However, we need to show to the world that there are people who think that, "fighting and hurting each other do not bring any solutions."
If possible I would be grateful if you could show up at the gathering in Kyoto on the 24th. We may have a chance to do a panel discussion on the stage. Send me a message if you cannot make it to the gathering.

Finally, I want to tell you that we are all keeping ourselves well and sound in health. I feel that a mountain god is our guardian deity.
I thank you for thinking of us, and sending us some of your energy.

I am back again. I have got some questions after re-reading the campaign statement.
Is this campaign going out from Japan or the USA? Or is it already part of a worldwide network?
The reason I ask that is that I feel the campaign is going on only in Japan. However, I do see an expression of "people with the same thought worldwide" yet my impression is somewhat limited to Japan. My suggestion is that American people take the lead and the rest of the people in the world play a supporting role. I feel that the campaign will be better received and more persuasive if done in that way. I apologize if the campaign is already taking place internationally. My current thinking may be due to the fact that I do not know the background of how Mr. Nees' letter came to Japan. However I still think that the thrust of the campaign should be "America is being supported by its friends around the world" That would be more discreet, and I feel that would make it easier to get more people involved. The present idea sounds like "Taking out an ad in the USA with Japanese money", which resembles the donation situation from the Japanese government to the American government. What do you think? Two of my friends whom I sent the Email to also share my idea. I would appreciate it if you could reconsider the address.

Nevertheless I will introduce Mr. Nees' letter to as many people as possible. I also hope that some of my American friends will join the campaign because I think Mr. Nees' letter could have a great impact on anyone. I am certain that you all feel the same way.
Please take care Bau, Yumi, Sugimori and other members of Genki-Mura.

I saw the proposal to take out ads in American newspapers. Mr. Nees' letter, which was filled with deep concern and loving-kindness, touched my hart. This is a message that should reach the people of the world. I think an ad in newspapers is ideal.
I am wondering about the possibility of collecting donations worldwide through using multilingual Web sites. At least we could include Europe. I feel it might be difficult to collect 17 million yen for each newspaper within Japan. I do not know much about handling foreign currencies but I would think that introducing a US dollar transferring system or opening a bank account in the USA might help to increase the donations.

As Mr. Kikuchi points out, I also think that the tone of the mass media is far from how ordinary people in the world feel. I think it is possible to form a transnational network on the web, which was not possible during the Persian Gulf War. It is true to say that even with the Internet as a tool it would be meaningless if there were no love and wisdom, but Mr. Nees' letter does carry those things.
I hope the campaign can implement and transmit our multilingual message throughout the world.
Unfortunately, foreign languages are not my strong point but I will send the message to as many people as possible.
